The Winter Solstice (Yule-the rebirth of the sun), is observed on the day the sun reaches its lowest point in the sky, marking the gradual return of light and longer days.
Yule celebrates the balance of light and dark, honoring the value in both. It is a time of cosmic balance between day and night (and light and dark).
The Solstice is an opportunity to pause and reflect on the previous year, and consider what has been learned and how to move forward.
Yule is a time of rebirth, hope, and renewal, inviting people to embrace cycles of change and encouraging them to look for light in the darkness. It's a time for setting new intentions, to honor both endings and new beginnings, and to nurture and sew the seeds of personal growth.
Many people see Yule as a magickal time of transformation, celebrating the natural cycles of life, death, and rebirth. Similarly, many Yule traditions focus on honoring the Earth and its cycles and how they’re mirrored in our own lives.
I see this as a time to reflect on the past, honor the present, and welcome (and prepare for) new beginnings.
Do you have any winter traditions?
