Watch This Hand (Not THAT One): How Our Current Administration Distracts While Destroying
The Hidden War Against Marginalized Communities: What You’re Not Hearing About the Trump Presidency & How Its Actions Are Putting Us All at Risk
For the first three days of the Trump presidency, I'd managed to escape all but my feelings of rage. However, on Thursday (day 4), the sadness and weight of what is already happening (and what I know is soon to come) hit me like a semi-truck.
I cried countless times yesterday and this morning I found myself standing in our living room crying again, as I watched footage of people already suffering at the hands of these new orders.
Welcome back to another Founding Member Post!
Twice each month I will put out an exclusive post like this one (often on a more intimate and personal topic, book sneak peeks, OR featuring some of the training materials I’m teaching) that will be brought to you by and for our Founding Members.
When I am scheduling this post, we have thirty-six Founding Members!
I won’t put them on the spot today, but you know who you are. I can’t thank you enough for your support (especially in this moment).
Yesterday, upon hearing nationalists talking about DE&I, DE&I contractors, and their strategy to "end DEI" in both the public and private sectors (after reading the plan online the night before), it became real to me that for the next four years (possibly beyond), the work I've loved doing (that I loved because it gave me meaning and purpose) within organizations in the US may stop.
In recent months, most of my work has been with companies in Canada. While I'm still taking international clients (for now), I don't know if this will be sustainable (or if I will be allowed to continue as things progress), so I'm starting to make other plans for survival (which hopefully include more writing) in the coming months.
Before this reality sank in (which I knew was coming months ago), I'd been so focused on the global impacts of 47's long list of orders that I'd forgotten to "put my own air mask on before trying to save the people around me," falling back into a bad habit I've been trying to break for the past six years (distracting myself from my own problems with other people, projects, or activities).
The list of Presidential Actions (currently updated daily) can be found HERE.
Distractions are Everywhere
This administration operates like a magician, constantly diverting our attention from one hand to the other. It's the 'Watch this hand, so you're missing what the other hand is doing' administration and we must remain vigilant (and not fall for their tactics).
Watch this hand—is what's being said out loud to distract us from what the other hand is doing (in presidential actions and courtrooms). They will Deny, Defend, and Distract us from everything they're doing every chance they get, and we must be careful not to take the bait.
Much of what is being shared in the corporate media is a distraction, and while a lot of what's been shared on these outlets (like CNN, NBC, CBS, FOX News, etc.) has been alarming, there are much more sinister games in play (that aren't getting media coverage).
If you can stomach and digest the original Presidential Actions on the Whitehouse webpage, I strongly suggest you set aside time each day to read the updates as they are released.
