I’ve asked this question because I remember when my children were little and we received pamphlets about camps taking place in different towns with a focus on different experiences. We would sit with them to discuss what their favorite activities would make their special time away, an enduring and joyful moment. A consideration was the Organization running the Camps reputation. Their ability to provide reassurance and guidance about the needs of their campers, etc., and of course for us, the cost of each child attending, this was very important.
Here is what I wrote earlier:
Could I ask, were the children attending this Camp from the town, or are the children from further away….from places who wouldn’t know the history of this area… who would see beautiful brochures and photos of happy campers in a stunning setting… lots of Christian teachings to go with the ‘amazing experience’ in sending your child/ children on such an adventure?! Just wondering…
Hi, thank you for speaking of this sad, painful story. Speaking about a tragedy is devastating and uncomfortable but if those who care, those who have questions, and those who want to understand and change this story don’t or aren’t allowed to now, when our memory is fresh… when will it be possible to speak.
When a crime is committed (please know I’m not suggesting that one has), the agency in charge goes to the scene and collects evidence immediately… whilst it’s fresh in the minds of those involved. Every minute that goes by without speaking to witnesses etc., is time wasted and possibly forgotten.
It will always be difficult to investigate such events. Empathy is most important…

It is likely kids from all over the state... and the state is BIG (could contain 5 smaller states easy)... so some kids could be from a desert, a beach, the flat planes... we have multiple ecosystems here.
Thank you, I’m learning lots from your Substack… I just subscribed. You’re amazing.

I heard one report that the girls all came from well-off white families... but I've not been able to confirm this.
